Seattle indie-rockers Throw Me the Statue are preluding the debut of their sophomore album, Creaturesque, with a free single, "Ancestors," available for download here. Frontman and band founder Scott Reitherman first began releasing music in 2004, and is now joined by Aaron Goldman, Jarred Grimes and Charlie Smith to round out the current full band. They released Moonbeams , their first album, in 2007 and again in 2008 when they joined the label Secretly Canadian.
"Ancestors," is worth the download. I mean, I take free music when it's handed to me. But the sound does come off as a little tired and predictable. It's mellow, melodic, maybe even a little melancholy--all good indie rock adjectives that start with "mel." The good news, though, is that the first album was rockin'. I mean, I haven't heard it all, but that's what they say 'round the D+T offices. Also, I did check out the addictive single "Lolita" (watch the music video here) from their first album and now I'll probably be listening to it on repeat until I tear myself away from this computer and go home. Enjoy! -AK
