A Review Of Elliot Allagash By An Attractive Girl - As Imagined By Simon Rich, Author of Elliot Allagash

Simon Rich :: Tuesday, May 25th, 2010 4:30 pm

Simon Rich is perhaps the funniest writer in America. A writer for Saturday Night Live, the show has enjoyed a serious upswing in funniness under his tutelage. His first two books of short essays, Ant Farm and Free Range Chickens, are some of the most hysterical writing you’ll find anywhere, and his fantastic debut novel, Elliot Allagash, releases today. Rich was kind enough to review it have his extremely attractive female review it for us.

Until discovering Elliot Allagash, I was only attracted to tall, virile men. But this novel was so hilariously funny that it turned my entire worldview upside down. I am now attracted exclusively to comedy writers, and specifically, to Simon Rich.

As soon as I finished Elliot Allagash, I thought to myself: “Wow. Whoever wrote this book seems intelligent, charming and sexually normal.” Intrigued, I decided to flip to the author photo. That’s when my attraction to Mr. Rich turned into a kind of physical obsession.

I mean, look how cool this guy looks! MORE »

When casting a leading man for a summer blockbuster studios normally stay away from actors who are known for their uncanny ability to play a convincing sex offender. But Will Forte is about to redefine what it means to be Hollywood star in the action-comedy of the summer, MacGruber.

“When you put the wig on and the clothes for some reason you just feel a little different,” said actor Will Forte on a bright day in Santa Monica, California. “And right when you put on the mustache you just feel different. You automatically talk differently from feeling this thing above your upper lip, you just become a different person. I’m a mustache away from being a very realistic looking sex offender.”

If you haven’t noticed, Will Forte is not your typical movie star. MORE »

Justin Bieber and Betty White, America’s Hottest New Couple

Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, May 7th, 2010 4:45 pm

Two figures from opposite ends of the age spectrum have emerged as the most beloved and ubiquitous celebrities in modern-day America.  What do Betty White and Justin Bieber have in common?  Well, they’re both adorable and have swarms of fanatical followers (Twitter followers, in Justin’s case).  They’ve both recently done or will do much-hyped SNL appearances that go viral about an hour after they air.  Their most important similarity, though, could melt America’s collective brain with a little careful planning.  Betty White is a self-proclaimed “cougar,” and the Bieb often professes his crushes on older women.  There’s only one logical way that either of them could get any more famous than they already are, and I think I’ve figured it out. Gabourey Sidibe’s Not So Precious Anymore

Shannon Hassett :: Monday, April 26th, 2010 11:00 am

Precious star Gabourey Sidibe hosted SNL this weekend. It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from the actress, who made the rounds promoting her Oscar nominated film and wooed talk show hosts the world over in the process. But while Ellen was easily smitten with Sidibe’s energetic, dance-filled entrance, a bubbly personality only gets you so far when it comes to the Saturday night stage. MORE »

Justin Bieber Brings His “Baby” to SNL

Shannon Hassett :: Tuesday, April 13th, 2010 3:50 pm

Justin Bieber has a long career ahead of him, and this fact was made evident by his performance on SNL this past Saturday, though it had little to do with his abilities. Bieber has learned the key to celeb longevity, which is as simple as this: know your strengths and exploit them accordingly.

The singer’s rendition of hit single “Baby” for this weekend’s show was everything you’ve come to expect from the tiny teeny bopper: miming, moonwalking, leather and a pair of sneakers easily twice his actual size. He is a boy band in and of himself, and it’s no wonder Justin Timberlake fought Usher for father figure status (Usher won, if you were unaware). MORE »

Betty White Is Hollywood’s New It Girl?

Amy Rose Spiegel :: Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 3:45 pm

As the world’s biggest Golden Girls fan, I’m thrilled by America’s sudden, unexpected obsession with Betty White, who played the lovable airhead of the bunch, Rose.  I have to say, it’s not that it’s undeserved, but I’m startled by the recent surge of affection that has re-ignited the career of the sudden media darling.  Below, a study in the re-emergence of Betty White. Jimmy Fallon May Not Be Funny, But He Knows Good Music

Matt Kiebus :: Friday, March 12th, 2010 3:00 pm

Jimmy Fallon seems to be a likeable guy. Sure, he laughs at his own jokes, he’s awkward when interviewing people and comes up with dumb half-thought out games. All of these things are fine, for your average drinking buddy. But for some reason Jimmy Fallon isn’t average. In fact he’s really fucking famous, so all these in adequacies add up to 55 minutes of god awful late night television. However the whole hour isn’t a complete waste of time, because those last 5 minutes are normally music gold. MORE »

Betty White on “SNL” Gig: “No Nudity”

Amy Laviero :: Friday, March 12th, 2010 12:20 pm

Among my favorite childhood memories is drinking tea with my mom while watching the “Golden Girls,” and I’m always thrilled when I catch syndicated episodes on TV Land. Betty White, who played the show’s sweet Rose hasn’t ever quite left the limelight and was most recently featured on a SuperBowl advertisement for Snickers; an ad that definitely wouldn’t have been as funny without her.

Although “Saturday Night Live” had propositioned White to host in the past, scheduling conflicts prevented the star from ever appearing. However, a recent Facebook campaign to get her on “SNL” seems to have succeeded. MORE »

Hall & Oates Bass Player Dies at 58

Shannon Hassett :: Monday, March 1st, 2010 6:00 pm

It has just been reported that longtime bassist for pop-rocker’s Hall and Oates, Tom ‘T-Bone’ Wolk, died yesterday evening from what is believed to be a heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital in New York hours after completing work in the studio with Daryl Hall, who is currently finishing up a solo album. A seasoned musician, Wolk, the self-described ‘guy in the hat,’ played with everyone from Bette Middler and Billy Joel to Elvis Costello and Carly Simon, as well as a six year stint as the bass player in Saturday Night Live’s house band (1986-92). The news is made even more tragic by Hall and Oates’ scheduled performance on tonight’s episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Aubrey Plaza: The Perfect Snotty Comedian

Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, February 12th, 2010 12:05 pm

Facebook is a self-centered technology through and through.  Even though this has been understood since its inception, I’m still surprised sometimes to see just how conceited its users can be.   I know a lot of it is all in good fun, but there’s something about the “celebrity doppelganger” craze that I just don’t like.  Everyone, at one time or another, has been told that they look like someone famous, and whether that’s true or just meant to flatter, this trend is a way for some people to revel in that compliment for as long as they choose to leave their lookalike as their profile picture.

Them Crooked Vultures: No Bullshit, Just Rock

Simon Rich :: Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 2:15 pm

Last night Them Crooked Vultures rocked the Roseland Ballroom for just under two hours straight. They opened with “No One Loves Me and Neither Do I,” and I was immediately elated to see Dave Grohl back behind the kit, a whirlwind of long, dark brown hair amidst two chaotic arms that kept the most powerful beat I’ve seen at any rock show. The band has also confirmed three east coast dates: February 8 at Roseland Ballroom, February 10 at the Fillmore in Charlotte, NC and February 12 at Atlanta’s the Tabernacle.
