Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’ Video - Not That Gay

Carmel Lobello :: Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 5:00 pm

Lady Gaga’s new Alejandro video is the latest proof to my theory that when Michael Jackson died his soul immediately entered hers. Set in what must be Mexico City from the future (BladeRunner style), the 8:44-long Steven Klein-directed video is pure big budget, MJ-style entertainment- raunchy, ridiculous, and elegant all at the same time. And sure, maybe slightly gay (although not nearly as much as everyone is saying). Just like MJ. Watch the video after the jump. MORE »

Field Music Return With New Video And Tour Dates

Nick Nicoludis :: Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 4:45 pm

It’s an incredible thing when a band takes a hiatus and comes roaring back in with a new album, video and an extensive tour. Well, that is just what English rockers Field Music are doing. Brothers Peter and David Brewis are back with a new line-up that includes Kev Dosdale on guitar and keys and Ian Black on bass. After releasing two albums as Field Music, the brothers decided to take a break from the indie scene and work on their own music. They both put out solo albums in 2008, and they’ve now decided to give Field Music another go with a new music video and a whole heap of tour dates. See the video and dates after the jump. MORE »

Video: M.I.A. - ‘Born Free’ - NSFW

Danielle Johnsen :: Monday, April 26th, 2010 12:41 pm

Wowza! When M.I.A. was discussing her evolution a few weeks ago, she wasn’t lying. The new single ‘Born Free‘, which was leaked last week is much more Liars than her typical catchy Summer ‘Paper Planes‘ style jams. D+T posted a link for the latest single from her upcoming album last week, but it has since been taken down. And the video for the single, directed by Romain Gavras, is overtly violent and capitalizes on the message M.I.A.‘s been attempting to get across for a while. The very NSFW video, which features police raids, sex scenes and the murdering of various red-headed teens is after the jump. MORE »

Michel Gondry Chats About ‘Thorn in the Heart’ & ‘The Green Hornet’

Danielle Johnsen :: Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 2:46 pm

Last week, I had the chance to sit down with Michel Gondry, acclaimed director and mind-blowing extraordinaire, to discuss his most recent works, Thorn in the Heart and The Green Hornet. While the family based documentary and super hero action film couldn’t be any more different than each other, Gondry seems to approach all of his projects with the same vigor and whimsy one has learned to expect. Music Video: Devendra Banhart “Baby”

Nick Nicoludis :: Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 4:40 pm

Looking more like Guy Fawkes, Devendra Banhart’s new video for his peppy love song “Baby” is a sort of mystery. The song is lighthearted and happy, melding complex vocal harmonies and trotting guitar arpeggios that aren’t found in many of his world-weary folk numbers. This video however is an enigma; featuring Fabrizio Moretti of the Strokes, the GZA and Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT. The group happily stroll together down sunny streets, until some giant cigarette filter looking thing comes and sweeps them up. At this point, I couldn’t really figure out what the hell was going on, and I was even more confused when the cylinder container entered some kind of butt-hole looking thing. I mean, maybe I’m imagining it but I think that is what it looks like. Guess who is the king of the butt-hole/mysterious orifice creatures: GZA. The song is great, and I could see myself listening to it a lot, but what the hell is going on with this video? Watch it after the jump and relay your thoughts on the mysterious orifice. MORE »

Johnny Sanford :: Monday, March 15th, 2010 1:40 pm

Will the divided nations of the world ever find peace together? This is the question that Adam Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone of the comedy troupe The Lonely Island tries to answer in their new single,  “Boombox.” They released their video for it this weekend,  which means the turbo bass has officially been hit, and guest Julien Casablancas is lookin’ good  in fingerless gloves. Music Video: OK Go’s “This Too Shall Pass”

Danielle Johnsen :: Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 3:21 pm

Whatever you may think about OK Go, you have to give them credit for continuously bringing it with their music videos. I am convinced that if MTV was functioning like it did back in the 90′s, they would be one of the biggest bands in America if only in part due to their clever music videos. The band teamed up with Syyn Labs and director James Frost to create the four-minute Rube Goldberg machine to be featured in the video. Check out the a-maze-ing (get it?) video after the jump. Gorillaz ‘Stylo’ Gets the HD Treatment

Danielle Johnsen :: Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 12:35 pm

The video for “Stylo”, the first single off of the Gorillaz soon to be released “Plastic Beach”, is full of pissed off cartoons, crazy Tarantino style car chases, as well as the always amazing Bruce Willis. Seems it isn’t a music video nowadays without at least one celebrity cameo. While I personally don’t love the song, the video is perfect for my fellow action film lovers. EMI restricted the video from being embedded, so click through to check out it out, along with other HD goodies, on the band’s YouTube page.

Music Video: Caribou “Odessa”

Nick Nicoludis :: Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 3:25 pm

“Odessa” is the first single released from Caribou‘s upcoming Swim album (due out 4/20/10) and it now has an amazing video to go with it. The nature oriented video, co-directed by Nic Brown of Video Marsh, is as haunting as it is gorgeous. The song feels like warm water surrounding you on the dance floor and doesn’t necessarily connote images of rams hanging out in the snow, a bloody woman looking for something or random winter scenes layered together. Still, it is absolutely beautiful in it’s imagery and cinematography. Maybe it’s the strange juxtaposition of a video that could be used for a number of death-metal bands because of it’s chilling imagery and a song that is dance-floor gold that makes this video so enrapturing. Check it out after the jump. MORE »
