Roxy Music Touring Again After A Decade Hiatus

Nick Nicoludis :: Friday, July 16th, 2010 3:15 pm

This year is starting to become the “year of reunions,” and the geniuses from Roxy Music don’t want to be left in the dust. Bryan Ferry, one of the group’s founding members, announced that Roxy Music will be going on tour early next year for the first time in a decade. But don’t get your hopes up for a Brian Eno appearance, because, just like their last tour in 2001, the iconic musician will not be showing up for any of the shows. See the dates after the jump. Dean Wareham Announces Tour Of Galaxie 500 Songs

Amy Rose Spiegel :: Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 1:05 pm

Galaxie 500, when it existed for four years back in the ’80s and ’90s, was a band of superhumans.  The evidence: A) It formed when its members were students at Harvard.  B) They borrowed their first drum set from Conan O’Brien.  C) They ran an avant-garde press called Exact Change on the side.  Their best musical accomplishments were dreamy, quiet albums for lonesome lovers.  To put it simply, Galaxie 500 killed it.  That’s why it’s so exciting that the former frontman, Dean Wareham, just put together a mini-tour of Galaxie 500 material, which will take place in the coming months.  Continue reading for dates. Field Music Return With New Video And Tour Dates

Nick Nicoludis :: Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 4:45 pm

It’s an incredible thing when a band takes a hiatus and comes roaring back in with a new album, video and an extensive tour. Well, that is just what English rockers Field Music are doing. Brothers Peter and David Brewis are back with a new line-up that includes Kev Dosdale on guitar and keys and Ian Black on bass. After releasing two albums as Field Music, the brothers decided to take a break from the indie scene and work on their own music. They both put out solo albums in 2008, and they’ve now decided to give Field Music another go with a new music video and a whole heap of tour dates. See the video and dates after the jump. MORE »

Titus Andronicus Extend Summer Tour

Nick Nicoludis :: Friday, April 30th, 2010 2:50 pm

Titus Andronicus must be having a killer time on tour promoting their newest album The Monitor, because they’ve announced another round of dates for this summer after their return from Europe in late May. I know I’ll be gleefully attending their two shows in Brooklyn, and you probably should too (where ever you are). In addition to extending their tour they’ll be extending they’re band. The quintet will become an eight-piece ensemble featuring keyboards, cello and horn players taken from tour mates Hallelujah the Hills. The shows will probably be an epic surge of drunken energy and sing-alongs as they recreate the grandeur of their newest album. Click through to see the dates. MORE »

Wavves Finish New Album & Tour

Nick Nicoludis :: Thursday, April 15th, 2010 3:30 pm

What’s the best (most popular) way to announce anything these days? Via a blog/twitter I’d say, and that’s how Wavves front man Nathan Williams announced the completion of their sophomore album due out this summer. Here’s what he said in a blog post on Saturday:

“WE ALSO FINISHED RECORDING A RECORD IN OXFORD MISSISSIPPI AND ARE CURRENTLY MIXING IT. SOUNDS CARAAAZAAAAAAYYY AND WILL BE OUT THIS SUMMER. SEEEEEE YA!” MORE »

Clips From Pavement’s First Reunion Show

Nick Nicoludis :: Friday, April 9th, 2010 5:00 pm

Pavement have begun their whirlwind reunion tour of the world, and some footage from their first show in Auckland New Zealand has surfaced. They sound the same as they did back on their old albums, and since I’ve never seen them live I have to assume they are putting out all the same energy they did when they were touring in the ’90s. Their excitement is palpable in their performance, and even though it is just a video you can still tell they are giving 110% at their shows. I mean they’ve sold out arenas across the globe for months to come, how can they not be pumped? I know I can’t wait to see them this September when they wrap up their tour in NYC, and watching this footage is only getting me more and more excited. Jump to see the videos. MORE »

Godspeed You! Black Emperor Return

Nick Nicoludis :: Friday, April 9th, 2010 2:15 pm

One of my favorite lines from the arguably boring and underwhelming movie Pineapple Express is when Seth Rogen tells his girlfriend she’ll go off to college and get really into Godspeed You! Black Emperor and turn into a lesbian. That has no relation to the fact the the seminal college post rockers are reuniting (kind of, I didn’t know they had broken up) and are playing a slew of shows across England as a part of the ATP Nightmare Before Christmas Festival, Europe and the US.  All the news was delivered via GY!BE’s website in a cryptic and artsy press release. The man who is Raaaaaaaandy is returning to the stage, and I couldn’t be more excited.  He announced the “Dangerously Delicious” tour on his Twitter five hours ago, and the pre-sales for ALL the shows have already sold out.  I guess he really has blown up!  You can buy tickets the day of the regular release on his website on 3/20.  He’ll be debuting all-new material at the shows, and I’m itching to get tickets.  Oh, and he’s performing at Bonnaroo, too!  Here’s hoping for more Harris and Darwish jokes! Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, March 12th, 2010 3:45 pm

Baltimore band Wye Oak is certainly keeping busy.  In addition to inspiring me to struggle with tons of ill-conceived tree jokes (Wye Oak?  Because pine was busy!  Wait, what?), they’re releasing a free download of “I Hope You Die” from their new EP, My Neighbor/My Creator and beginning a national tour today. Twee-pop darlings Belle and Sebastian announced in an e-mail to their mailing list yesterday that they are in the process of writing new songs and that they’ll soon be heading to a studio in Los Angeles to record them.  Their last full-length release was 2006′s The Life Pursuit, so the news has been a long time coming. Kings of Convenience Postpone North American Tour

Gray Hurlburt :: Monday, February 15th, 2010 2:50 pm

It seems as though the winter flu-virus has tossed a stick into the spokes of one King of Convenience, Eirik Glambek Bøe, because the group has canceled their North American tour dates this month. And, unfortunately for them, they had to also pass up a television appearance on Jimmy Fallon, which quickly transferred to the lucky hands of Neon Indian. To compensate the ticket holders of the nixed performances, Kings of Convenience are offering them an exclusive track, a recording of “Love Is No Big Truth” made for Italian radio. They will return to America with eight shows this June. Read on for the new dates. MORE »

Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, February 5th, 2010 3:35 pm

Spoon debuted the video for the first single from Transference, “Written In Reverse,” today on Pitchfork.  The video takes a literal approach - they play the track in front of an enormous mirror.  They’re also about to begin their tour of Europe, North America, and Australia, beginning in the UK on Valentine’s Day.
