Sigur Rós Scrap New Album

Everyone’s favorite Icelandic post-rock/classical/minimalist ethereal heroes Sigur Rós have decided to entirely scrap their new album despite claiming last year that this, what would have been their sixth release, was nearing completion. Frontman and chief falsetto Jonsí Birgisson now maintains that the band are too busy “having babies” and have embarked upon an indefinite hiatus for the forseeable future.

In an interview with Spinner magazine, Birgisson reveals that the band “hasn’t got another album ready, It was just a rumor. We started to record something, but then we chucked it all away. So I think we are going to have to start it all again.” Birgisson himself is set to release his debut solo album Go on March 22. Sigur Rós’ most recent release was the snappily-titled “Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaus” in 2008.
