Yeasayer: Odd Blood

Adam Kearney :: Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 1:30 pm

“Odd Blood” finds Yeasayer broadcasting expansive, mind-altering rhythms into the ionosphere once again.  Their original fusion of electronica, rock, and middle eastern music earned singer Chris Keating, guitarist Anand Wilder, and bassist Ira Wolf Tuton high praise for their first album “All Hour Cymbals.”  Their second album follows suit with the same worldly, new age sonics, though now with more lavish production and psychedelic sound effects. By now everyone has heard “Ambling Alp” the lead single off Odd Blood Yeasayer’s forthcoming album. It’s a jam-I do proclaim. The video is pretty great too. Trippy as fuck. But great. Peep it after the jump. Oh. It’s not entirely safe for work.

Nude Retreat, Sponsored By Yeasayer

Gray Hurlburt :: Thursday, November 19th, 2009 12:30 pm

To garner more interest in their upcoming LP, Odd Blood, the mad-scientists at Yeasayer have concocted a bizarre concept video for the single “Ambling Alp”. While it would be false to consider this as a proper music-video, because the track is more of an abridged science-museum-exhibit background loop, there’s a keyed factor at the forefront of dudes and dudettes á la nude, which has serially become a trend in recent history: re Girls, Flaming Lips, Carrie Prejean. Go ahead and check it out at www.amblingalp.com. Just be warned, reader, it’s a bit creepy and a bit NSFW—you might even get the feeling of having entered R2D2’s wet dream.

Yeasayer’s “Ambling Alp” Available Now

Stephen Blackwell :: Friday, October 30th, 2009 1:30 pm

Yeasayer have released a single off their forthcoming album, Odd Blood. It’s called “Ambling Alp” and you can download it right now.

It’s sufficiently quirky and feel good. The chorus is neat, but the middle eight is going to take a a few listens to get used to. They’re not pure pop just yet.

The embed to download “Ambling Alp” (which is a three-step process) is available after the jump.

Yeasayer are performing at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC tonight 10/30. MORE »

Bands in Museums

Stephen Blackwell :: Thursday, October 29th, 2009 2:30 pm

It’s become quite the trend for indie bands to perform in museums.

I understand the movement. Creating indie music has become such a bourgeoise, self-important endeavor that the only way to fully embrace its ecstasies is within the hallowed halls of the MoMA or the Guggenheim. Why shouldn’t dissonant, overwrought songs about failed relationships or vague political manifestos hang in the air alongside Lichtenstein and Longo? Or would the reason why a guitar solo is righteously played out of key be better illuminated alongside works of great fiction? Watch out libraries; you’re next.

Anyway, back to museums. Yeasayer at the Guggenheim on Friday 10/30. Fischerspooner at the MoMA this sunday 11/1. Be there or be square.
