‘Small Wonder’ is Soooo Gay!

Danielle Johnsen :: Friday, February 5th, 2010 9:19 pm

If you are reading this, chances are you watched at least one episode of the American 80’s treasure “Small Wonder”, a low budget syndicated sitcom based around the Lawsons and the odd little robot girl, V.I.C.I. who lives with the family and is treated like an actual child. Only in the 80’s folks, only in the 80’s. The show has just been released on DVD (out on February 16th) and culture vulture Rich from FourFour took one for the team and watched all NINE hours of the program!!! MORE »

Michael Vick Reality Show Finally to Premiere

Shannon Hassett :: Monday, February 1st, 2010 5:20 pm

A lot of press has surrounded the countdown to Michael Vick’s new reality series, The MIchael VIck Project, and tomorrow marks its big debut. Created by the BET, the show’s tagline reads “a life in progress” and aims to capture the star as he attempts to rehabilitate his life and his career. As if you needed any reminding, the then quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons was arrested in 2007 for his participation in an illegal dog fighting ring, the evidence for which was discovered as part of a drug investigation on the star’s Virginia property. He was sentenced to 23 months in jail at Kentucky’s Leavenworth Prison, as well as one million in restitution fees, and was released a few months early due to his participation in a drug treatment program. Vick also incurred a slew of loan default charges upon his release, racking up millions in fees and illegal spending costs. For a much more dramatic rendering of these events, please see the BET’s own Vick timeline. MORE »

Maybe Jimmy Fallon Doesn’t Suck

Elissa Suh :: Monday, November 30th, 2009 11:35 am

Response has been temperamental with regards to Jimmy Fallon’s late night show. However, those with lukewarm feelings may change their minds on the SNL alum. Just check out this clip of Fallon as Neil Young covering “Fresh Prince” or click after the jump. Also included: The Pixies’ performance of “Debaser” from last week’s show.

Twitter Account Gets Own Television Series

Danielle Johnsen :: Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 5:01 pm

Apparently if you want to become the next big thing in publishing or Hollywood, take to the internet. A few months ago it seemed that any sort of pop culture relevant blog, like This is Why You Are Fat and Look at This Fucking Hipster, were securing book deals, so it was only natural that the next step was to give Twitter users their own piece of the pie. @ShitMyDadSays, a Twitter account started in August by Justin Halpern, has not only scored more than 700,000 followers in the few months since its inception - it now has a production deal with CBS. Christopher Walken Does ‘Poker Face’

Danielle Johnsen :: Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 3:05 pm

Is there anyone else quite like Christopher Walken? Beyond just being a talented actor, the man lives for music and comedy. Walken has brought his signature style to various music videos over the years and he is the reason I can’t not think of cow bell whenever I hear ‘Don’t Fear the Reaper’, but his latest effort has had me hypnotized for days. “Modern” the New “Arrested”?

Craig Gaffney :: Friday, October 2nd, 2009 2:42 pm

All right, I’ll admit that’s a pretty ballsy statement. Nevertheless, ABC (I shit you not) has produced a prime-time series worthy of DVR space. Modern Family has managed to splice remnants of Arrested Development’s irreverent tone with a direct-to-camera style lifted straight from The Office. Despite being premature, my praise is genuine and I don’t feel alone in stating that I’ll take even the slightest reminder of AD over the cesspool of laugh-track laden “shit-coms” that air during most major network slots.

Check out the pilot here, it may not actually be AD, but just think of all the faux-celebrity sex-tapes you’ve downloaded over the years which eventually made their way into your “regularly scheduled” list of programming.

Bored To Death: A Recap / A Review

Isaac Lekach :: Monday, September 21st, 2009 3:30 pm

Last night HBO aired the first episode of Bored To Death starring Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis. The show is based on author Jonathan Ames’s short story of the same name. If you missed it and don’t have access to HBO. iTunes is giving it away for free!

While being decidedly less dramatic (for the sake of comedy), the plot is mostly faithful to the short story. Schwartzman plays the newly single and immensely bored Jonathan Ames, who decides to moonlight as a private dick to pass the time. Figuring he’s read enough Raymond Chandler novels to understand the basics of being a sleuth, Ames puts an ad on Craig’s List and well… We won’t give away the rest. Schwartzman shines as do Danson and Galifianakis (though we only get a brief glimpse of their characters). While the premiere, admittedly, lacked the hook, line and sinker Six Feet Under debuted with, the premise and cast are strong enough for us to tune in next weekend.

“Bored to Death” Premiere Hits the Web

Danielle Johnsen :: Thursday, September 17th, 2009 8:11 pm

bored-to-death_lSince Fall is just around the corner, some people might be thinking about the leaves changing, putting on a coat and saying adios to iced coffee, but my brain automatically goes to what the TV networks have lined up. To avoid their new programs getting lost in the shuffle, networks need to be extra creative in their marketing efforts, which is why I love what HBO has done in support of their latest comedy, “Bored to Death”.
