Hear The New Spoon Single

Isaac Lekach :: Monday, November 30th, 2009 6:30 pm

NPR’s got the new Spoon single. It’s called “Written In Reverse” off Transference, Spoon’s seventh LP due out early next year. Click here to listen to it. What do we think? Britt’s got a growl going-sounds like he’s straining his voice. I think I’d rather get high in backseats of cars.

Blur Documentary Coming Soon

Isaac Lekach :: Monday, November 30th, 2009 3:30 pm

No Distance Left To Run, the forthcoming Blur documentary (peep the preview after the jump), ends with the caption “In Cinemas January 2010.” Since we Americans refer to “cinemas” as “movie theaters” I’m assuming the U.S. is  not included in the theatrical distribution plans-but then we’d also probably be more interested in a UFC sanctioned cage match between Damon Albarn and Liam Gallagher-so I don’t blame them.

Maybe Jimmy Fallon Doesn’t Suck

Elissa Suh :: Monday, November 30th, 2009 11:35 am

Response has been temperamental with regards to Jimmy Fallon’s late night show. However, those with lukewarm feelings may change their minds on the SNL alum. Just check out this clip of Fallon as Neil Young covering “Fresh Prince” or click after the jump. Also included: The Pixies’ performance of “Debaser” from last week’s show.

Music Video: WHY? “These Hands/ January Twenty Something”

Alex Moore :: Monday, November 30th, 2009 11:00 am

WHY?’s new record Eskimo Snow is one of our favorites of 2009, and it if you haven’t seen the new video for its combined first two songs, “These Hands” and “January Twenty Something,” you should check it out after the jump.

The video was directed by Ben Barnes, and although we’re not sure exactly why they decided to combine both songs into one video, more video is better than less in our book.

Noah and the Whale Talk Film, Tour, and Beyond

Stephen Blackwell :: Monday, November 30th, 2009 1:20 am

Here’s a video we recently filmed with Noah and the Whale during their three-night stint at the Mercury Lounge. The indie film-obsessed band talk about their movie, The First Days of Spring, their upcoming album, and their tour. (We tried getting their thoughts on Fantastic Mr. Fox, but they hadn’t seen it yet. We bet they loved it.)

Check it out after the jump or over at VTech.

By now everyone has heard “Ambling Alp” the lead single off Odd Blood Yeasayer’s forthcoming album. It’s a jam-I do proclaim. The video is pretty great too. Trippy as fuck. But great. Peep it after the jump. Oh. It’s not entirely safe for work.

Dan Aykroyd Loses Mind, Bottles Vodka In Skulls

Isaac Lekach :: Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 12:30 pm

The heading might be a bit sensationalized, but we’re here to sell papers folks. Last night I was watching Kevin Pollack’s Talk Show (amazing, by the way). Early on he went on a tangent and hipped the audience to Dan Aykroyd’s line of vodka. Celebrities have made alcoholic beverages before (Francis Ford Coppola, Jerry Garcia, Danny DeVito, etc.) but none have ever decided to bottle them in skulls before. Aykrod’s unconventional choice of vessle has zero to do with taste. He’s become obsessed with Mayans, spirits, the unknown, etc. (The skulls are modeled after the coveted subject of the last Indiana Jones flick). Click here to learn more about his vodka and if you’ve got the patience, watch the video (maybe you’d agree with me on the current whereabouts of Aykroyd’s mind-he’s way into this shit).

The Avett Brothers Get Local for New Video

Danielle Johnsen :: Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 5:32 pm

No this is not a local cable shopping network commercial, its the latest music video from The Avett Brothers. Jody Hill, subversive director of Foot Fist Way and Observe & Report, worked on the latest video in support of the band’s single “Slight Figure Of Speech” and its all kinds of good. To add to the mystery behind the commercials, Hill did a whole slew of them for The American Budget network , which you can view on their YouTube channel. Not sure if this video does a better job of promoting the band or getting fans of Hill and “Eastbound & Down” psyched for its upcoming second season on HBO. Either way, it reminds of the good ol’ days, when music videos were goofy, much like Weezer’s “Buddy Holly” and Foo Fighters’.

Check out the video and tour dates for Avett Brothers after the jump. MORE »

Beyonce and Paul McCartney to appear on ABC on Thanksgiving (Kind Of)

Alex Moore :: Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 4:45 pm

ABC may be losing Oprah, but they are hosting a pretty sweet double header with Beyonce and Paul McCartney on Thanksgiving night. Well, kind of.

Neither McCartney or Beyonce are actually performing live on Thanksgiving. The McCartney footage will feature his 25th anniversary concert from July at New York’s Citi Field (the closest thing we have to Shea Stadium these days) as well as footage from the original Shea show in ‘65. And there’s an interview with McCartney, which I guess is always nice.

The Beyonce portion features footage of her big show this summer at the Wynn, Las Vegas from the “I Am… Yours” tour. From the preview footage which you can see after the jump, she’s looking foxy as always. Coverage starts at 9pm EST on Thursday.

Swedish chanteuse Lykke Li is giving away her cover of The Shirelles “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.” Click here to watch the video and download the song. It’s considerably more subdued than the original-and almost everything else Lykke Li’s ever done. But sometimes it’s good to cry. Just a little bit. A little bit.
